About HostPenny
HostPenny is an independent guide to cheap web hosting, built on one rule: always show the renewal price next to the intro price.
HostPenny exists because cheap web hosting is advertised dishonestly. The prices you see in ads and roundups are first-term promotions that renew far higher, and most review sites quietly repeat the intro figure because it makes the deal look better. We do the opposite: we lead with the renewal price, because that is what you actually pay for the years you own your site.
What we are — and what we're not
HostPenny is not a hosting company, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any host we cover. We don't sell hosting, run servers, or take payment from readers. We cover pure web hosting — shared, WordPress, VPS, cloud and dedicated plans — and we deliberately stay out of website builders, which are a different product. Host names and logos appear only to identify the companies we're writing about.
How we research prices
Every price we publish is an advertised rate, read from the host's own pricing on a dated day (currently 2026-09-10) for the cheapest real plan in each category, using US pricing. We record the intro price, the prepay term it requires, and the renewal price, then compute an effective cost over time. We do not run load tests or publish uptime and speed numbers we didn't measure; where performance matters, we frame it as advertised or cite a named third party. Promo pricing changes constantly, so we treat every figure as a dated band and tell you to check the current price before buying.
How we stay independent
Some links to hosts are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy — at no extra cost to you. That commission never changes a ranking or a price, and we say so plainly: for example, Hostinger pays affiliates nothing on renewals, and we still rank it on merit and tell you the renewal is what matters. When the honest answer is a host that pays us less, or nothing, that's the answer we give. The full details are in our affiliate disclosure.
